Outline of YIEA

YIEA stands for “Yamaguchi International Exchange Association”

As a central organization to promote international exchange in Yamaguchi Prefecture, YIEA was established in January, 1990 by the Prefecture. YIEA offers international information services and engages in the planning and support of international exchange/international cooperation and a number of other constructive activities, with the aim of creating a bridge between the people of Yamaguchi and foreigners.

Aim of Establishment

As a core organization of private international exchange groups in the prefecture, we aim to push for an environment open to globalization and a multicultural society, where citizens of the prefecture can participate in broad, international advancement for the whole region.

Details about our Organization

Based on the Action Program formulated in March 2009, our organization conducts the following to move towards a multicultural society.

We will support foreigners living in the prefecture

Japanese Language Classes

We will support foreigners living in the prefecture with basic Japanese classes and/or courses on understanding the Japanese lifestyle using the language.

Support of a translator/interpreter

We offer language support to foreigners living in the prefecture who are not used to Japanese.

Consultation on living in Japan

The staff will listen and consult those who are having trouble with everyday life in Japan.

Free lawyer consultation

We have free lawyer consultations with legal advice available.

Housing deposit loans for international students

We will loan money for housing and other necessities to privately financed, international students attending an university in the prefecture (includes short term colleges also).

Support for building networks and international activities

Grants for international activities

We provide subsidies for international activities conducted by private international organizations active in the prefecture.

Promotion of international activities (small grants)

We will help support and coordinate classes run by citizens and international activist groups

Promote international understanding

Hold foreign culture/language classes

Have foreign culture/language classes held by the prefecture’s coordinators of international relations and foreigners living in Yamaguchi

Lend materials on international understanding

We will lend materials such as ˝Traditional Clothing from the World,˝ ˝Box of Culture,˝ ˝Photo Language,˝ and books that promote international understanding

International Student Home Visit Cultural Exchange

We will introduce a host family to international students who attend university in the prefecture.

Youth Exchange Program

We have programs on international understanding and cultural exchange for the youth in the community.

Sending information through E-mail to members

Those who register through the mailing list will receive information on international exchange. If interested, please contact us.

Provide information

We aim to expand information networks by working with private organizations and government agencies.
